I miss high school. Or maybe, I miss being 20 years old. I just walked two miles home on a beautiful fall night. I miss doing that. It reminds me of all the parties that I walked home from. Fun social randomness. The liminal time between Halloween and real winter. It can still be spooky, but doesn’t have to be. I guess I miss that fleeting time in my life, though it lasted half a decade. I enjoyed it then, and still do, and was reminded of it tonight. It’s fun to walk past everyone’s houses, and get a glimpse of their home life. Orderly, disorderly, quaint, TV, seasonal, isolated, etc. I romanticize homes with enough space and wealth to have “wings”. It’s a very Poe season. I’m here for it.

Just because this is short, doesn’t mean that it’s low effort! I went through all of my White Dwarf magazines (old and new!) and took note of everything I found interesting. There’s so much content published, I’m going to start losing track of which issue is what. It’s now available above, in the “Blog” menu. I’ll to my best to keep it updated, but, sometimes it’s tough to keep up on everything. So no promises.

Wow, there’s really a lot out there for all these games. The most common thing I read online about this stuff is that there isn’t enough. But wow, there’s really a ton. Even Cursed City, that seemed to get the short-straw of support really has a lot of content. Here’s every White Dwarf with Cursed City content: It’s 2025 and we’re not quite half way through Nightwars. People also complain that they want but can’t get the expansions. That is disappointing. They go quick and aren’t produced in surplus. If I have an issue, having only participated in the Cursed City support cycle, it’s that expansions come too closely together. It’s 2025 and we’re not quite half way through Nightwars. We didn’t have time to digest anything before more material hit the streets. Also, with Cursed City, Games Workshop broke an unwritten covenant with Warhammer Quest fans: Expansions shall come…

Back in March my local Warhammer store associate (there’s only one. Just one guy) told me not to expect any more Cursed City content, but to keep an eye out for perhaps a new game some time. Looks like he’s pretty much right. We did get Grombrindal in May of 2025, but that’s it. And now we have the announcement for Warhammer Quest: Darkwater! It appears to be in the same vein as Cursed City. Set in the Age of Sigmar. Though I’m holding out judgment until I see the back of the box. Ohh, I’m looking forward to that! No details yet, other than what’s here. Cursed City was available roughly two months after it was announced. I’ve been banging the “there hasn’t been any WHQ this year!” drum for a while now. We’ll see what the timeline and additional details emerge. I’m excited!

I’m starting a series of posts about all the expansion content for modern Warhammer Quest games. They will appear weekly, in chronological order, starting with the 2015 launch of Warhammer Quest: The Adventure Card Game. Some games are well documented online, others… not so much… I’m looking at you Silver Tower and Shadows Over Hammerhal. But in fairness, those two games came out with an overlapping timeline and when White Dwarf magazine abandoned issue numbers and was only identified by month/year.  And, for added confusion, for a time there were weekly editions! A retrospective will conclude the series. Onward!

On this day, 30 years ago, Warhammer Quest held its launch party. Merry Quest day! May you keep the spirit of Warhammer Quest all year long. And here’s to hoping Games Workshop does something fun and interesting with WHQ, we’re overdue!

Back in November I revamped my hobby priorities. No more hoarding unassembled models… So now, six months later, I have a bunch of assembled, unpainted models. Which, I actually feel better about that a bunch of stuff still in the box. I can touch and see them, even throw them into a game if I want (sure, that doesn’t happen much, unpainted minis! Eww!). Since I just finished painting everything (except for a few expansion stragglers) for Warhammer Quest: Silver Tower, I don’t have any really pressing hobby demands. So here’s my updated, current priority list: Games workshop display pieces I have a number of nice GW minis that aren’t necessarily ones I’d use in a game. They are however, very cool, in my opinion. These are the minis I’d be sad if I never painted, even if they’re not particularly “useful”. Gotrek, Felix, Grombrindal, and Jakkob Bugmansson XI. Double…

This week marks one year of weekly hobby writing! The well of queued articles waxes and wanes, but I’ve had at least one come out every week for a whole year! The biggest surprise was that if I wasn’t writing about a specific game system or topic, I didn’t know what to do with the post. I’m doing the blog for my own personal enjoyment, but it’s fun having people check it out. So I didn’t know what to do with general hobby musings. I felt bad posting links on Facebook or Reddit because, well, nobody cares. Not in a bad way, but literally nobody cares what I think about where miniature painting fits in the cosmos. So I write those articles, and don’t promote them. No one gets spammed with my continuous posts, and no one reads them. But I said my piece and that’s enough for me. I…

How awesome is this! I recently turned moderately old, and my world-class brother gave me the hardcover reprint of Warhammer 40,000 Rogue Trader. This book is so cool. It was absolutely formative in our early adolescence. Love the models from back then. Not only that, he got me a subscription to White Dwarf! Something old and something new!

I made my own game system! It’s a tiny zine game that can fit in your pocket. All you need is the game booklet, a D12 and a pen/pencil. On this site I’ll provide support and potentially updates depending on demand. I hope everyone enjoys playing the game as much as I enjoyed making it! The game is available here, in the store: https://cutandassemble.com/product/which-way
