This is an early concept for a “Little Book of Dungeon Deaths”.

Warhammer Quest 1995: still the champ I started writing this post back in 2024 when I found this article on BoLS: https://www.belloflostsouls.net/2024/01/the-original-1995-warhammer-quest-still-holds-up-great-today.html But then, GW remembered the 30th anniversary and landed WHQ on Warhammer TV. They made a pretty solid post on Warhammer Community: https://www.warhammer-community.com/en-gb/articles/hjx3bwqb/celebrate-the-30th-anniversary-of-warhammer-quest-on-warhammer-tv/ It’s great to see WHQ getting some attention all these years later. What I think is great about WHQ95 (besides EVERYTHING) is that it’s just complex enough. It’s just crunchy enough. It’s roleplay-y enough. It’s a fun game that doesn’t go too overboard in any one direction. You’re not drowning in deck-building with dozens of cards. You’re not forgetting overly-complex multi-phase gameplay mechanics. There’s pretty much one way to win; you have to go through those rooms and I hope you roll well! I think some other classic games have more active communities, but WHQ is still thriving. Mordheim, Necromunda, and Man O’ War (just…

Sometimes I feel conflicted about resin printing. It’s great being able to self-manufacture almost anything you want rapidly. I needed piles of skulls to add to a 3d rendition of the Hall of Death from the Catacombs of Terror. I just cranked them out. I still have a whole bag of skulls for more projects The convenience has a cost; it’s kind of a hassle. It’s smelly, it’s sticky, if you want truly custom models you have to spend lots of time on the computer. But there’s so much to print. Practically infinite amounts of really decent models and fun terrain/accessories. As nice as downloadable models are, they lack some of the magic of a physical product. Especially one bought from a real store. It’s fun to browse, talk to a real person, and look at packaging. Though, some of that magic is fading. And as much as I love…

One of the fun things about Blackstone Fortress is that you can have NPCs tag along. Now this is something I haven’t worked into a game yet, but I really want to give Skarburn Zapdakka a try. A brief blurb about Retinue Characters is available here: https://www.warhammer-community.com/2019/12/03/blackstone-fortress-building-your-retinuegw-homepage-post-1 If you can get your hands on old White Dwarf Magazines, or the 2019 Blackstone Fortress Annual, you’ll have all the details. You play a mission to “unlock” the new characters, then they can hop into your outer space adventures. Skarburn Zapdakka appeared in the October 2019 White Dwarf. I’m sure GW a Flash Git model can be procured, but there aren’t many available for less than $30 US. Though I do really like the “Flash Git with Targeting Squig“. So instead of dropping real money on a real model, I went with an amazing 3D print from Lost_Heresy: https://cults3d.com/en/3d-model/game/ork-big-shoota I think it…

Zine Quest is a month-long celebration of zines at Kickstarter every February. I was completely oblivious to such a thing six months ago. I’d only heard of zines antidotally, skater zines, punk rock zines, etc. Well, as it turns out, there’s a ton of people making RPG zines. There’s SOOOOO much cool content, imagination, and artistry out there in that space.  However, almost all of those zines are D&D-like experiences.  They need a Game Master to run the adventures. That’s great for a lot of groups, but for me, I like being a player. And those that don’t require a GM, they require a fairly large book with tons of lookup tables and rules. Which has its place, but won’t fit in your pants pocket. So that’s where my game fits in. In your pants pocket! The germ of this idea had been in my mind for decades I think. …

This Cursed City content flew completely under my radar until recently. It consists of a pre-battle report: https://www.warhammer-community.com/2023/12/20/building-the-wildest-festive-battle-report-adventure-yet/ The actual scenario is linked in the page above, but here’s the direct link: https://www.warhammer-community.com/wp-content/uploads/2023/12/vgBnJJdPbfXOvBra.pdf As usual, this GW content would cost hundreds of dollars to put on the table if you don’t already have Da Red Gobbo, Squigs, Grotmas Gitz, Gnawty Snufflers, and Coal Grots. I read the adventure, but it turns out I unknowingly had COVID, so not much stuck around in the old thinker. I’ll give it another read through. I’m glad to see some fun, festive content for Cursed City. The game is a GREAT base to make fun things happen. I found some pretty solid 3D options for you home printers out there. I didn’t find (and didn’t look too hard) for Gnawty Snufflers and Coal Grots. Just swap in some goblins, there’s lots of squig models…

Attention everyone! Stop what you’re doing and read the eratta from Games Workshop, fixing the errors with The Madness of Baron Veingulper. Huge thanks to Nicholas Linindoll in the Cursed City Facebook group for pushing GW to move on the fix. It’s nice when non-free expansion material is playable. I’m equal parts glad and surprised this was released. GW addressed the mistakes and omittions necessary to be Rules-As-Written slaughtered by an avalanche of bloodthirsty cannibals. Doorway rules are included, map corrections, as well as the card for Crypt Haunter Courtiers! They will beat your heroes to death, no joke.

Updated 4/12/2024 with the recent Errata The ghoulish models that Games Workshop included in White Dwarf 497–498 are so indistinguishable that even GW got mixed up and didn’t include all of them in the magazines. I’ve gathered the brightest minds of our generation to make sense of what is necessary to acquire the models to play the game (though rules for the Crypt Haunter Courtiers are completely omitted from the scenarios). If you haven’t seen Always Board Never Boring‘s take on the magazines, they’re right here: It’s pretty pricy to get into this. Keep in mind, the entire base game costs $199.00 (+tax) and can be found for less everywhere besides the GW webstore. If you buy all kits separately, you’re looking at $318.50 plus tax. The Model breakdown: Quantity $ Per Model Total Description 1 $35.00 $35.00 Royal Decapitator 1 $35.00 $35.00 Marrowscroll Herald 1 $33.50 $33.50 Abhorrant Archregent…

I made my own game system! It’s a tiny zine game that can fit in your pocket. All you need is the game booklet, a D12 and a pen/pencil. On this site I’ll provide support and potentially updates depending on demand. I hope everyone enjoys playing the game as much as I enjoyed making it! The game is available here, in the store: https://cutandassemble.com/product/which-way

Check out these awesome print-and-play boards from Sebastian Stuart over at Eastern Empire: There’s a ton of variety and they’re BEAUTIFUL!!! They are formatted for Euro size paper or large format printers, so you might have to do a little reformatting yourself. I printed a bunch and they look great! I’ll get them mounted up soon. I’m looking forward to some new adventures with these boards!
