What’s on the Table?! / Game Review of Lost Relics
Warhammer Quest: Lost Relics! This was my first time getting Lost Relics on the table. I found it to be… OK? I played the first five adventures solo over the course of a few days. It didn’t feel nearly as “light” as some of the reviews said. I found myself constantly in the rulebook trying to grapple with surprisingly tricky and interconnected rules. I think a sizable portion of the community saying this game is too easy misses a subtle distinction in the rulebook: You can kill any minion with two attacks. Not any hostile, but any minion. Leaders are not minions and will take numerous attacks to kill. Some critical rules are presented as a textual logic tree with odd line, paragraph, and page breaks. I wish some rules were stated explicitly, rather than through inference: Some things are explicitly said, but easily overlooked or buried: I also have…

Cursed City: Gorslav Decapitation! We did a better job of sticking to the rules this time. It’s easier without the Ulfenwatch and all their layed buffs. We were trying to get to the philactries, but were waylaid in the first room. So we just wiped out all the hostiles and were super lucky on reinforcement rolls. By that time, Gorslav came to us, Morrvahl Olbrecht lit him up with his spells and Dagnai finished the job! Yes, we’re pretty much speed-running the quest. But we only get to play once a month (roughly) so I’m OK with it. Let’s ask Glaurio if everything went according to plan… Oh wait, he’s six-feet under (see the obelisk below)! I’m really appreciative of my gaming buddies. They’re the best. Fun night!

Cursed City: Halgrim Decapitation! We (I) did make one, kinda big mistake. I constantly forget to buff the Ulfenwatch attack while Halgrim was on the board. Woops We’re here for fun, not to be bothered by silly rules that might make us lose!

Star Borg! One of my amazing game buddies ran a session of Star Borg. It was a blast! We all survived, though we’re slightly dismembered. We picked up a pilot, grabbed a data cache, stole a ship, and blew up the base on the way out! It was really fun. All our characters are very “characterful”, though a bit wimpy. We also played Let’s Dig for Treasure twice. Always good for a laugh!

Warhammer Quest: Darkwater We defeated Foulhoof with our last hero! Whew! It went from easy, to nearly impossible, to just squeezing it out! Drolf was pretty beaten up, but still ran some interference for the rest of the team. We’ve finished Act I and have now unlocked the bonus heroes. We’re interested to see where this goes next!

Warhammer Quest: Darkwater The continuing adventures of Darkwater!
What’s on the Table?!
Warhammer Quest: Blackstone Fortress We speedran the approach to The Corridor of Death and defeated the lurking Urguls. Shadowguide almost croaked, but she made it! Teamwork!
What’s on the Table?!
Warhammer Quest: Darkwater The game guys got together and we played a few rounds of Darkwater. It was fun! We were able to *somewhat* complete the missions and escape without too much trouble. There was one scenario that the board was flooding and our moves were hindered. Yeah, we paced it out and there is no solution that allows us to make it to the exit in time. So we stretched the rules a bit. Unwinable. Maybe there’s a treasure that allows you to walk on water somehow. Again, setup is SO QUICK. That’s a real highlight. You can play multiple scnerarios without a big break to reset.

HeroQuest! We busted out HeroQuest: First Light. Great little set. Tons of fun with an impromptu imagination quest!
What’s on the Table?!
Warhammer Quest: Darkwater The green and pustulant waters of… Darkwater flooded the game table last night. We played our first game of WHQDW! It was fun. I’m pretty sure we did most things right. We’ll see how it goes. My first impression is that hostiles get a LOT of activations. In the initial “training” scenario, 3 Mire Kelpies activate (and respawn) after each hero has a go. That keeps you pretty busy. We’ll be up to our ears in it when we graduate to multiple hostile types on the board. Hopefully they don’t all keep respawing too. We were able to complete the mission and escape on time without too much trouble. The board-book worked fine. It was kind of nice actually. We were pleasently surprised with the reasonable amount of time it too to set up and play. WHQ games are fun, but they can take FOREVER to complete.…
