Monthly Archives: March 2025

I was extremely fortunate to have spent the last two weeks in beautiful sunny Scotland. I’m not even joking, it was sunny while I was there. It rarely rained and even if it had, it still would have been a great trip. While in Edinburgh, I stopped in the Warhammer store on Castle St. and picked up a Sloppity Bilepiper and the 2025 Black Library Celebration. So far, the highlight is “The One Road” by David Guymer. As a collector of all things Gotrek, I was really happy to see that story in there. It was a quick, fun read, though Gotrek factored in as only a minor character. The short story bridges into Verminslayer, that I haven’t checked out yet, as it still has limited availability. I wanted to hit an independent game store while I was there, but the timing didn’t work out. As much as I like…

Save minis for later, or enjoy them now? How long does a mini have to ripen in your collection before you tackle it? Days? Months? Years?… Decades? I definitely still have a bunch of minis from the 80s and 90s that aren’t quiiiiiite ready yet. There’s some delayed gratification issues at play. I also read/heard about a theory that the longer you own something that you’re saving for a special occasion, and the more times that you decide to not use it, that you become increasingly less likely to use it because it has already been passed over. Each opportunity to use it has to be incrementally more special. So it escalates into a pile of unpainted miniatures. Or something like that. My fairly recent shift in hobby priorities has been a positive experience. I don’t regret assembling anything. And I’ve even started painting some of it, including ALL OF…

Nothing substanciated, but I was in my local Warhammer store recently and talked to the GW associate. He said that he didn’t expect to see any additional Cursed City content. Not surprising, and probably true. Though it’d be great to get another White Dwarf or two. BUT! He said that he expects to see more from the Warhammer Quest line. How much insider knowledge does my store manager have? Probably very little. Am I happy about it? Yeah, I’d say so. Am I also sad having further confirmation that Cursed City is dead, in a coffin, buried deep underground? Yeah, I am. Cursed City is pretty fun. I really like the theme, characters (in-box and expansion), and minis. So we’ll see! Fingers crossed. Though that upcoming Old World RPG is still in the back of my mind. I think the world is big enough for multiple, concurrent Old World RPGs.

This week marks one year of weekly hobby writing! The well of queued articles waxes and wanes, but I’ve had at least one come out every week for a whole year! The biggest surprise was that if I wasn’t writing about a specific game system or topic, I didn’t know what to do with the post. I’m doing the blog for my own personal enjoyment, but it’s fun having people check it out. So I didn’t know what to do with general hobby musings. I felt bad posting links on Facebook or Reddit because, well, nobody cares. Not in a bad way, but literally nobody cares what I think about where miniature painting fits in the cosmos. So I write those articles, and don’t promote them. No one gets spammed with my continuous posts, and no one reads them. But I said my piece and that’s enough for me. I…

I hope all is well with Rusty, but a lot has happened since May 2020. https://rusty-warriors.blogspot.com

I’m up on most Games Workshop roleplay news, but I missed this one. GW announced on Warhammer Community the “imminent release” of Warhammer The Old World Roleplaying Game. Here’s a big write up from warhammer.com: https://www.wargamer.com/warhammer-the-old-world-rpg/exclusive Now what does this mean for a potentially new Warhammer Quest game? Who knows!?! Warhammer Quest and Warhammer Fantasy Roleplaying Game existed in parallel for one glorious year; 1995 (and I suppose lots of other years with Sliver Tower, Shadows Over Hammerhal, Blackstone Fortress, and Cursed City). But I’d say that sadly, this probably decreases the odds of a new Old World TTRPG. Cursed City is still an active, and if a 30th anniversary ’95 came out, it would complete directly with Cursed City, Soulbound, and the newly announced Cubicle 7 game.
