Warhammer Quest: Darkwater We defeated Foulhoof with our last hero! Whew! It went from easy, to nearly impossible, to just squeezing it out! Drolf was pretty beaten up, but still ran some interference for the rest of the team. We’ve finished Act I and have now unlocked the bonus heroes. We’re interested to see where this goes next!

Warhammer Quest: Darkwater The continuing adventures of Darkwater!

Contemporary Quest I was fortunate enough to get a copy of Cursed City in the original run. But oddly, I felt bad about having it and it was more than a year before I tackled it. So this time around I told myself that I want to stay up on Darkwater, and strike while the paintbrush is hot! It made me feel like I’m making good progress on the set, because I’m currently in Stage 3 of 4! Normally, I base after painting. But this time around, I based first. Then I primed and base-coated most of the minis. I really like getting a base color on the minis, it catapults them towards completion.

Warhammer Quest: Darkwater The game guys got together and we played a few rounds of Darkwater. It was fun! We were able to *somewhat* complete the missions and escape without too much trouble. There was one scenario that the board was flooding and our moves were hindered. Yeah, we paced it out and there is no solution that allows us to make it to the exit in time. So we stretched the rules a bit. Unwinable. Maybe there’s a treasure that allows you to walk on water somehow. Again, setup is SO QUICK. That’s a real highlight. You can play multiple scnerarios without a big break to reset.

I have some projects that I’d really like to get knocked out A Note to Readers: I started this post months (years?) ago.  And happily, I’ve finished some things on it already! The List That’s the stuff I had on my list from the ancient and dusty past.  A book of hobby grudges, perhaps. I have new grudges too!  My current priorities include Darkwater, a whole stack of Citadel wizards, and a Halfling Blitz Bowl team. I missed the timeliness-deadline on the Cursed City Christmas scenario again, but maybe… next year. Which is now this year… I’ll get around to it. Now, if I can pick up a paintbrush and actually start working I can make some progress.

Celebrate the New Year with new Darkwater content coming out in White Dwarf. 2025 was a slow year in Warhammer Quest news. That is until there was a deluge of coverage about Darkwater. There’s been more than I can/have posted about: Previews of heroes, monsters, community painted heroes, community painted villains, and more. We’re now getting some features in print. The December White Dwarf is already out and has a Designer’s Commentary. January has actual new game content; Flesh-Eater Courts in Darkwater. I’m curious how the ghouls look. It’s interesting that they were featured in Cursed City and now Darkwater. December 2025 – White Dwarf – 519 January 2026 – White Dwarf – 520

Warhammer Quest: Darkwater The green and pustulant waters of… Darkwater flooded the game table last night. We played our first game of WHQDW! It was fun.  I’m pretty sure we did most things right.  We’ll see how it goes. My first impression is that hostiles get a LOT of activations. In the initial “training” scenario, 3 Mire Kelpies activate (and respawn) after each hero has a go. That keeps you pretty busy. We’ll be up to our ears in it when we graduate to multiple hostile types on the board. Hopefully they don’t all keep respawing too. We were able to complete the mission and escape on time without too much trouble. The board-book worked fine.  It was kind of nice actually. We were pleasently surprised with the reasonable amount of time it too to set up and play. WHQ games are fun, but they can take FOREVER to complete.…

“Christmastime Is Here” – Charlie Brown ‘Tis the season of gift giving. You don’t have to celebrate Christmas to give presents in December. There were a few game-centric things happening in my orbit this past week. I’m over the moon to receive Warhammer Quest: Darkwater as a present. I’ve read the book and assembled the first four heroes and the Mire Kelpies.  Ready to kick things off! Other game type things that were given/received were Heroquest First Light, a Gnome Blitz Bowl team with Treeman, and a complete (beginner) paint setup. Oh, did I forget to mention… NURGLINGS!!!! Pretty fun stuff. I just splurged a small amount on a ghoul judge.  Surprisingly affordable compared to lots of single model sets.  Maybe this faction doesn’t sell all that great and GW tries to pump them up into Warhammer Quest (Both Cursed City and now Darkwater) . This is in anticipation of…

Today is Warhammer Quest Day, in a way. Pre-orders for Warhammer Quest: Darkwater go live today at 1:00 pm EST. I’m looking forward to the game system that I care most about getting some coverage. I, and the whole world, expect the game to sell well.  Despite a price tag that rivals an eBay copy of Warhammer Quest 1995.  I’m hoping for a good, fun game, despite some obvious cutbacks. The board-book is unproven (for WHQ), the new character and activation system looks “a bit clockwork” as a youtuber described it. Removing unnecessary grind from the game is a good thing.  Cursed City was bloated with grind out of the box.  Luckily that is easy to skirt, just play the missions that you want, based on your level. We’ll see.  Fingers crossed. Word on the street is that there are no special incentives to pre-order.  No limited edition foil character…
