My guess is that it’s probably done. I don’t expect any new heroes, villains, or adventures to come out.
As always, I don’t have any insight into GW’s plans. It’s just my feeling that the game is complete.
I think a lot of people were hoping for a “big” game.
That’s not to say that we could be surprised by a new big ol’ quest book, or some new cards. But I don’t think we will.
There was a lot of hype at the start. Plenty of Warhammer Community articles about Darkwater. But I think the major departure from a winning WHQ system burst a lot of gamer’s bubbles.
Warhammer Community started reporting on WHQ: DW in October of 2025 and wrapped up in January 2026.
A handful of articles were published in White Dwarf along with some new hero-characters. But those came out back-to-back-to-back. No new scenarios, hostiles or game modes.
I think a lot of people were hoping for a “big” game. But we got the smallest full-size WHQ yet. I’m excluding the Adventure Card Game and WHQ: Lost Relics from that discussion.
Actually, I take that back. WHQ: Shadows Over Hammerhal is smaller than Darkwater. There’s more replayability in Darkwater, even if some of the adventures are occasionally unwinnable Rules-As-Written. There are also more, and more varied hostiles in Darkwater.
There was (unfounded) hope that we were going to see an Old World WHQ. Not this time around.
I’m sure Darkwater isn’t a flop. A lot of copies were sold. I’m still working on painting mine. The minis are great. I pulled out the painting table months ago in hopes of knocking out a few models. That hasn’t really happened, unfortunately.
However! I did get some paint on the Pox-Wretches recently! Two were painted up as test models, so now I’m tackling the remaining dozen. I hope to have the Mire Kelpies and Pox-Wretches done soon. That leaves only eight (pretty cool) Pestigors before it’s unique models there on out!
In conclusion: I think Darkwater is complete. And, if I’m being honest, if GW were to release another Warhammer Quest supplement, I’d prefer a Cursed City update.
But sometimes funny things happen. It can take months or even years for articles to make their way into White Dwarf just due to the nature of publishing. Maybe we’ll get luck and see an update, but I’m not holding my breath (unless I’m standing downwind of Gelgus Pust!).
