2023 Hobby Update
So if you can’t tell, the One Page Rules review is on hold. Turns out my FEP was totally shot in the middle and I was getting lots of failed prints. At first I though it was an issue with the minis/supports/etc. because I hadn’t really been having issues. But yup, the FEP was scratched up so badly right in the center that it stopped anything from sticking to the build plate. So after getting that changed out I was back in business! Though that’s when I shifted to Warhammer Quest minis almost entirely. Oh yeah, and we also moved practically everything in our house. We shifted the use of half the rooms in the house. Swapped, moved, disassembled, reassembled and we’re pretty much almost done with that. It felt like moving, but moving into the same house again. Did I mention that I have my very own game-space in…
One Page Rules – Still Printing!
I’m still working on the OPR print-a-thon. They’ve dropped two new minis since I started!
One Page Rules – Free Miniatures Review
One Page Rules isn’t exactally a secret any more. There are plenty of youtubers singing the miniature-agnostic game’s praises, especially in comparison to other companies-not-to-be-named-here. OPR offers free core rules, has a reasonably priced Patreon and a bunch of minis on my mini factory. Not to mention a free points calculating/army building app. However you may not know that they give away 25 free minis available here. You can try before you buy! More minis are added occasionally, the most recent going up 8/16/2022. I’m going to review every single pre-supported mini and let you know what I think. The first batch is on the printer right now. In fact, a few months ago I printed some mummies for my WHQ set. They turned out pretty darn well if I do say so myself!
A long time in the making
My page about DIY Warhammer Quest is now live. It’s not so much about the set I made, but a consolidation of resources to Print and Play WHQ at home. I have to admit, I’m a bit conflicted about posting this stuff. I don’t own the rights to any of it and almost none of it I actually created myself. But I put a TON of hours into the files making all the print layouts work. I’m especially proud of all the hounding I put into the character expansion booklets. But at the same time, GW doesn’t even make games like this any more, much less this actual one. It’s nearly 30 years old! The only people making money off this game are eBay sellers. Oh, to have more than a handful of original pieces! So check it out, it’s right here:
The world of mini painting is incredible
Check out this AMAZING Slambo by Adam Wier at Between the Bolter and Me. So awesome. Those horns are freehand! No texture on them. Love it! Just a leathery old Chaos Warrior, down in the depths of a dungeon.
Re-Cursed City
It’s coming back! But you already knew that, the news has gone around the world and back. I’m glad to hear it. I even already have a copy, though I haven’t as of yet finished putting all the models together, so that means I haven’t given it a play yet either. It’ll happen. All in good time. No rushing something like this. Yeah. I’ll definitely do it.
Spindly vs Game Pieces
The 1990s are starting to be a long time ago now. That was my first run of interest in miniatures, wargaming, dungeon crawls and the like. Now with the pandemic still going, I’ve picked up the paintbrush again. I’ve definitely noticed a difference in miniatures, new miniatures are AMAZING. But as beautiful as new sculps are, I prefer the game-piece-iness of old models. Sure, new models are more proportionate, sculptural, etc. But these are game pieces! I’m looking a them from across a big table! And the spindlyness! I’ll really get into get-off-my-lawn territory there. So I guess what I’m getting at is that new minis are beautiful sculptures, but they make poor game pieces. The pictures below (not my paint jobs, clearly!), demonstrate robustness vs frailty. It is a bit funny though because I was getting out of the hobby by the time 1995 was rolling around. They were…
Something Old / Something New
Very excited about the HerqQuest reboot! The minis and everything look great! I’ve been meaning to post an update about the Warhammer Quest project. I’ll get that online in the next few weeks.
Coming Soon: My DIY Warhammer Quest
2D and 3D printed DIY Warhammer Quest is on it’s way!
