A few weeks ago I wrote about something strange happening (being interested in perhaps playing Warhammer Fantasy Battle). It happened again.
One of my offspring has developed a real and growing interest in acquiring and playing a 40k army.
I have not discouraged this.
It’s made me reconsider all the 40k minis I’ve had since my own childhood. So I fired up a list at https://www.newrecruit.eu
Turns out I have a roughly 1,000 point Space Marine army. Painted. 😳
Including unpainted minis, it’s approximately 1,800+ points counting everything that forms up into a proper unit.
That’s just the ‘Marines.
I was really surprised. Shocked even that I’m sitting on a whole army. Though I have ABSOLUTELY no idea how these forces would turn out in a game. I’ve never read the Quick Start Guide, much less the full rules, despite being an original paperback Rogue Trader co-owner.
I was always in it for the models and the painting. I find it hilarious that I might end up actually playing a game with my 35+ year old models. Assuming 11th edition doesn’t finally disallow my mini-minis. Which would be uproariously hilarious; that I finally got around to playing a game and my antique models become obsolete days beforehand! Though no model is obsolete in the basement!
My fingers are crossed that my RTB-01 beaky marines continue to be viable in 40k.
I can also field 650 points of Tyranids (mostly unpainted). That includes some newer models though, hardly counts. Though I’m a bit bummed that my old handful of hybrids aren’t part of the normal ‘Nid list. 😕
Lastly, I can launch 735 points of Aeldari. That one surprised me. Also with the help of some modern cheater models.
Added bonus – it’s 485 points if I post a Genestealer Cults only list. I bet I have 40-60 Purestrain Genestealers altogether, which appears to be more than you’re supposed to field?
There may be more lurking in the nerdery, I’m not entirely sure, but this has to be the bulk of it. 3705 points of 80s-90s 40k goodness.
