Blackstone Fortress – Broggan Brother Proxies
Here’s a poor picture of quick paint jobs on some proxies for the retinue characters the Broggan Brothers in Blackstone Fortress. These guys are House Bharteth – Law Enforcement Ogre/Ogryns I was going back and forth between those and these. I went with the House Bharthen models because I liked their look just a bit more. Some passable free options are here, and here.

The Gargoylian in Cursed City
If you’re like me, and only tangentially associated with Age of Sigmar lore, you might have also been wondering: Well, they seem to be magical creatures of varying size and form that inhabit the same Mortal Realms. This is the only reference to gargoylians on Warhammer Community: https://www.warhammer-community.com/en-gb/articles/kI158RMr/cities-of-sigmar-who-or-what-exactly-are-gargoylians/ I don’t have many/any proper AoS books myself, so I can’t contribute too much more information. They don’t make an appearance in the Soulbound Ulfenkarn City at the Edge of Death book. But I can talk about White Dwarf 496. One of the oddities of the Cities of Sigmar heroes is the addition of the gargoylian companion. It’s listed as an Empowerment, but with no other text, other than what is on the card. A gargoylian companion essentially provides a short-ranged attack at the cost of a 4+ die. There is a 50/50 chance of causing 0, 2 or 4 damage to…
Update on my goblin Blitz Bowl team
Last year I sold six Blood Bowl goblins without realizing they’d form a whole Blitz Bowl team if I added a troll. I was pretty annoyed I didn’t do my research, but the resolution is even better. I found a group of affordable vintage replacements, and 3D printed a troll. My team is made up of six star players from the 9025 Goblin Team. Bomber Dribblesnot, Fungus the Loon (x2), Scrappa Sorehead, Nobbla Blackwart, and Goblin 2 I really like the idea of having an entire team made up of star players. I can’t wait to get these guys on the pitch. It’ll be a ton of fun!
Cursed City – Reduced vs Ignored
Unlike many/most games, the average Cursed City hostile does not make any type of defense roll. Some hostiles in Cursed City are especially nasty. They can reduce or ignore damage dealt by heroes. Here’s the explanation on page 27 of the Rulebook. Here’s the rundown of Reduce/Ignore from the base game Sometimes there may be additional rules in the Questbook for how to handle damage, or what to do when a hostile is defeated. Hostile Unempowered Empowered Radukar the Wolf Reduce by 1, min of 0 damage taken Reduce by 2, min of 0 damage taken Vyrkos Blood-born Ignore on 9+ Ignore on 9+ Kosargi Nightguard Reduce by 2 on 10+, min 1 dam. Reduce by 2 on 9+, min 1 dam. Vargskyr Reduce by 2 on 10+, min 1 dam. Reduce by 2 on 9+, min 1 dam. Bat Swarms Reduce by 2 on 10+, min 1 dam. Reduce…
White Dwarf (Grombrindal) Collection Update
I’ve been a fan of the epitomous “White Dwarf” for a long time. My first White Dwarf magazine was issue 138, back in June 1991. Which is right around when I received Heroquest for Christmas. And that wonderful game came with a fellow that bears a striking resemblance to Grombrindal, the White Dwarf on the cover of the magazine. I was hooked. Stuff of Legends has a great page that is nearly up to date. Since then, my collection has grown a bit. This is where it stands so far: The White Dwarf at 90 (Second Iteration) White Dwarf XXX (with Gotrek & Bugmann) The Vampire Hunter Grombrindal The White Dwarf (an oddly simple version) Grombrindal 40 (Space Marine) Grombrindal (the newest iteration) Heroquest Dwarf (honorable mention since he’s not really a WD)
Cursed City “Familiars”
These aren’t actually familiars in base Cursed City, but they’re similar… Update! They ARE called familiars in the Nightwars book. When do the diregoyle, gnawbone stray cats, and gravestones appear? Spoilers below!!!! Diregoyles This little fella only pops up in one crisis… Day-time Hunt Crisis – Page 26: Crisis 6 – Thieving Diregoyle They swipe a piece of treasure, or similarly valuable item from the active hero. Gnawbone Strays Only come out at night to cause mischief… Night-time Hunt Crisis – Page 29: Crisis 16 – Unruly Row Night-time Scavenge Crisis – Page 33: Crisis 50 – Yowling Horror Gravestones These are mostly seen as an effect of the Deadwalker Zombie behavior table. On an unlucky behavior roll: Gravecall: The leader must place one available gravestone model in an empty space adjacent to a hero on the battlefield. If there are no available gravestone models, or there are no empty…
