The Cursed City core box came out in 2021, and I’m not going to say any more about that. Welcome back to October! My favorite month! Cooler temperatures, spooky movies, Halloween, autumn ales, and of course… Cursed City! It was followed by a number of expansions and additions. It can be tough to keep up with everything that is released after a game hits the market, especially when a list is started while content is still coming out. The internet is littered with incomplete contemporary Warhammer Quest lists. The good news is that nothing new will ever come out for Cursed City. That’s sarcasm. It’s horrible. This is the first year since 2015 that there hasn’t been new Warhammer Quest content. Sad! This is the first edition of WHQ that I’ve acquired at the initial release. I didn’t buy 1995 because it was expensive, I was still feeling the disappointment…

Not a ton of hobbying going on this summer, but I put a couple of models together:

You don’t even have to be good. Apply a zenithal prime and a translucent base color, now you’re in business! When you pick up that mini to paint, now you’re not starting at zero. You’ve already knocked out a good chunk. You’ve enabled yourself. A barrier is gone, it’s easier to start painting. Things you’ll need The Badger 105 Patriot that I use puts out a lot of paint, maybe too much really. But I wanted something that I can use on terrain as well as minis. Here’s a few examples of minis that have been run through the spray booth. I really find it mentally heartening to pick up a mini to paint that’s already 20% done.

Advanced Heroquest – The Maze As brutal as ever. Barbarian died twice, wizard died once before we ran away!

Apologies for probably my lowest energy post ever, but I knew it was going to happen sometime. Here’s some good info about Blood/Blitz Bowl mini sizes for those of you proxying at home.

We play Blitz Bowl in my house, but they’re the same minis. If you’ve ever wondered what GW minis would look like if they were infused with 50% more whimsy, take a look at the entire Blood Bowl lineup. When I was a kid, I didn’t like the idea of sworn mortal enemies playing a game with each other. There should be swords and blood! But now, in my dottering old age, I appreciate the silliness. The whimsy, even. Who knows why that goblin has a chainsaw, or pogo stick? I don’t, but isn’t he cute?! The Teams Here’s the current roster of BB teams. They’re all pretty great in their own ways. Now, GW has made Blood Bowl teams for decades. Made of metal before they were plastic. All kinds of little guys, full of character, in contrast with… The Big Guys Some teams get the “benefit” of Big…

Plunging into the Null Gravity Abyss! We conquered the approach and Stronghold in Blackstone Fortress.

Combat Arena: Lair of the Beast Our first try with this iteration. We usually play Gorechosen. We made a bunch of mistakes but still had fun. Next time we’ll fight each other as well as the Ambull.

More Blackstone Fortress! Descent! This was our last Stronghold before the Hidden Vault. We’re almost done with the core game, assuming we survive…

A few weeks ago I wrote about the Gargoylian in Cursed City. Since then, I’m still thinking about gargoylians. Specifically, do I need to acquire more gargoylian models? The first step is, what sets come with these adorably blood-thirsty magical creatures? Quick note: The Cities of Sigmar Army box and Spearhead box both recycle the Cavaliers, so there are no unique gargoylians to be had there. I’ve identified five sets that come with gargoylians, with eleven total models: Freeguild Cavaliers Now, most people will tell you that this set comes with one gargoylian. I believe it comes with two. Look at that weird bird thing! Have you ever seen a bird with a chin?! GARGOYLIAN! Tahlia Vedra Lioness-of-the Parch This is a big hero model but Warhammer.com pictures don’t have a good shot of the gargoylian, so here’s a painted up version over at CAM2D at Tumblr. Freeguild Command Corps…
